I would like to add an item to the OWL FAQ, comparing OWL and MFC. What, exactly, are the differences between OWL and MFC, and is there a difference in cost, speed, code size, learing curve, and others. I am an OWL programmer, but I am wondering wether I should spend the time to learn a whole new Windows Class Library just to be compatible with another group of programmers. Thanks for any insight into the subject.

10 August 1997 (age 15):
I am in the process of creating a small windows game, but there is surprisingly little discussion on methods for having the screen change (such as a ball bounce, a spaceship move, ect.) without an "event" such as EV_WM_LBUTTONDOWN or EV_WM_KEYDOWN. The only method I have found is using the WM_TIMER message, but this is not fast enough, nor accurate enough. If anyone has any ideas as to how to fix my problem, I would be very grateful. Thanks
QUESTION:
I am developing a windows program in OWL that requires an one object of type TObject available to all
member functions in the window class (the class that is derived from TFrameWindow). So I declared a
pointer like this:
TObject* objectPointer;
And then in the window object's constructor, I initialized it in the constructor like this:objectPointer = new TObject(argument1, argument2);
TObject's constructor that should have been called in that statement failed to initialize the member datain the object! All the member data remained at 0!!!!!!!!!! WHY IS THAT HAPPENING????????????????
-I would appreciate any help on this subject (please email me your reply to rcu··e@alu··u.ca as
I cannot access my newsgroups program for another two weeks). Thanks, Michael Currie
Lineage
The Currie line:
- John (1846-1911)
- Alex (1890-1964)
- Jack (1915-2009)
- Ron (1947-)
- Michael (1982-)
| Lucy Currie | Jack Currie | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Mary Ann | Ronald Currie | William "Bill" Currie | |||||||||||||||||||||||
| Maxime | Michael Currie | Carolyn | |||||||||||||||||||||||
The "Currie" name in North America as started by John Currie depends on male descendants, and therefore, since Scottish immigrant John Currie had only one adult son (Alex), the only ones keeping the line alive are:
Male descendants of Clyde Currie:
ALLAN (1943-): Michael, Ian, Jason: Matthew (2004-) + possible descendants of Michael
Male descendants of Jack Currie:
RON: Michael Currie (1982-) DOUG: Ian, Jeff: Jackson Currie, Grady Currie BILL: David: Samuel David Currie (2006-), Theo Reis Currie (2009-)
So at present we still have 6 men under 40 with the name Currie in North America descending from John Currie.
- Michael Currie (1982)
- Matthew Currie (2004)
- Jackson Currie (~2004)
- Grady Currie (~2004)
- Samuel David Currie (2006)
- Theo Reis Currie (2009)
