George Snook Jr.
George William Snook (17 February 1892 - 1 June 1960) was a pulp and paper mechanical superintendent and longtime resident of Kenora, Ontario.
Early life
He was born to George Snook and Anne Parsons in Gallois, Fortune Bay, Newfoundland on 17 February 1892, and baptized 20 March 1892. His birth record notes he is "Illegitamate [sic]", and Anne Parsons is listed a spinster rather than the wife of George Snook Sr. The religion of the parents is given as Church of England.
He moved with his parents to Port Arthur, Ontario, where they had his younger sister, Anna, on 21 July 1893. George Jr. spent his youth, from about 3 to 13, in Schreiber, Ontario, before the family moved back to Port Arthur sometime before 1921.
Marriage and family
He married Pearl Cunningham in 1913, at age 21. With Pearl he had six children:

- Sergeant Edwin (of the Canadian Army, Nanaimo, B.C. as of 1944)
- Edna (Mrs. Ahlin Lindstrom as of 1944)
- Audrey (Mrs. Frank Stewart) (of Kenora as of 1944)
- June (at home as of 1944)
- Cynthia (at home as of 1944)
His mother's obituary in May 1924 lists his address as 90 Ontario Street in Port Arthur (a street that as of 2019 does not appear to exist any longer).
Move to Kenora
He and his family moved to Kenora in about December 1925, so he could start a new job as machine shop foreman at O&M Pulp and Paper Co. in Kenora on 28 December 1925.
He and his wife were members of Knox United Church.
His wife died in 1945 and was interned at Lake of the Woods Cemetery.
He remarried in 1954 to a woman 26 years younger than him, Mabel Gertrude Lelond (1918 - 1992). [1]
He retired in 1957.
Snook died three years later, in 1960.

George William Snook. 319 First Street North, and a resident of Kenora for the past 35 years, died at St. Joseph's Hospital, Wednesday morning, June 1, following an illness of three and a half months. Born in Newfoundland, February 17, 1892, he was in his 69th year.
He received his education in Port Arthur and came to Kenora in 1925. He was mechanical superintendent at the O and M Pulp and Paper Co. for 32 years, retiring in 1957. He was a member of the Mando [Minnesota and Ontario Paper Company] Club a former member of the Kenora Curling Club and an adherent of Knox United Church.
Predeceased by his first wife Pearl in 1945, he was remarried in 1954 to Mabel Gertrude Lelond who survives him. Also surviving are two sons, William of Port Alberni, B.C. and Edwin of North Bay, Ont.; four daughters: Mrs. Ahlan (Edna) Lindstrom and Mrs. Glen (June) Fleming both of Kenora, Mrs. Frank (Audrey) Stewart and Mrs. Robert (Cynthia) Tamplin both of Port Alberni, B.C.; two sisters, Mrs. Alex Currie of Winnipeg and Mrs. Don McLeod of Fort William. Seventeen grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services will be held in Knox United Church, Saturday afternoon, June 4, at two o'clock. Rev. R. J. Leighton will officiate and interment [sic] will be in Lake of the Woods Cemetery. Pallbearers will be: W. J. McCann, Gerald Belanger, Jim Crandall, John Owen, James Edwards and Wallace Piercy.
