MARATHON, Ontario – At a Special Board Meeting held on Thursday, December 21, 2006, the Superior-Greenstone District School Board approved the appointment of Lise Haman as Director of Education, effective February 15 to October 31, 2007.

Lise Haman, a Franco-Ontarian born in Wawa, Ontario has been a Superintendent of Education with the Lakehead Public Schools since 1997. She received her Bachelor of Arts, from Ottawa University in 1977, after which she relocated to Thunder Bay where she acquired her Bachelor of Education from Lakehead University. She taught core French and French Immersion with the Lakehead District School Board for seven years before becoming a Coordinator. She also served as a Principal at Lakehead Public Schools for five years before her appointment as Superintendent of Education.

The Lakehead Public Schools Foundation was created in 2003 as an independent, charitable foundation dedicated to raising funds for Lakehead Public Schools students. Funds raised through the Foundation have been directed to graduating secondary students in the form of scholarships, to help fund the Grade 8 Awards of Excellence and to support the Student Assistance Fund (SAF). The SAF provides funds to each school to help students address financial obstacles including field trip, basic school supplies and before and after school programs to name a few. The name of the Foundation was changed in 2015 to better increase name recognition for potential donors.
