Robert Vollum
Robert Hamilton "Bob" Vollum (circa 1933 - 19 March 2014) was the father of Lee Vollum.
Obituary
Mr. Robert Hamilton Vollum, age 81 years, a resident of Thunder Bay, passed away peacefully in the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre on Wednesday, March 19, 2014. Bob was born and raised in Toronto with a career in the film and television industry that spanned many decades. During this time he worked for various organizations; Film House, CBC, CTV, Hallmark Studios and later his own company, Panorama Sound. From 1978 to 1983, Bob was the Coordinator of the Film Production Program at Confederation College. He truly enjoyed working with his students and teaching, and he had great fun acting in student productions. Until his retirement, Bob was a freelance sound engineer working on numerous films and television programs both in Toronto and Vancouver.Those who knew Bob would agree that he had an opinion on everything and his Letters to the Editor were plentiful. A brilliant and creative person, Bob loved to write, loved music and loved his work.
His family was of paramount importance and he had great pride in all his children. In his earlier days, and as a baseball enthusiast, Bob founded the Holy Spirit Baseball League, which grew to introduce the fun, participation and competitive spirit of baseball to hundreds of children, everywhere. He loved coaching his children's baseball teams. As well, Bob created and ran much loved community-based theatre shows as well as founding the legendary Allanford Rd. Neighbourhood Golf Tournament and dinner banquet, which attracted more than 120 golfers and their families each year. Halloween was of particular fun for Bob as through his film and TV expertise, he created well-thought-out and elaborate costumes and makeup for his children, which never failed to amaze at each door they trick-or-treated on.
Bob will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife of 31 years Lillian, sons Lee, Chris (Joanne), Patrick (Karen) and daughter Julie Maxwell (Bill), grandchildren Caitlin, Justin, Cassandra, Nicole and Christina, Stephanie and Richard Maxwell and great grandchildren Cameron, Alexis and Madison. Bob was predeceased by his parents, and by his sister Betty. As per Bob's wishes, cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at a later date in Southern Ontario.
