Homer Newton was the brother of Warrant Officer Class II Robert Allan NEWTON (R/109005), who died with Hubert Coulter when their light bomber was shot down off the coast of Algeria on the afternoon of 7 May 1943.
In summer 1943, Homer wrote to Hubert's brother Everett Coulter and asked to meet. Everett wrote to his sister Ruth Newman about this letter in a letter home, dated 25 August 1943.
The following winter, Everett would die in a bombing raid over Leipzig on the early morning of 20 February 1944.
