Robert Vernon
Robert Vernon (or "Bobby V.", although he does not wish to be called this) was born 17 November 1943.
He was an explosives expert with Dupont. Later he was a patent and trademark agent. For instance, he patented Mylar [1].
His granddaughter was a staff member at the Australian youth space academy.
He was born in Rhodesia. His parents were Matthew Halliday "Matt" Vernon and [[Anne (nee Dawson). Matthew was serving in the Royal Air Force, posted in Rhodesia. He brought his wife with him from England. It was there in Rhodesia that Robert was born.
Jonathan's maternal grandfather, Arthur Cecil Deakin, also served in the Air Force, as an electrician, serving in North Africa, which was where he learned to play chess, with German prisoners-of-war.
Arthur married his wife (name unknown) in approximately 1940. They made their life in Baton Rouge, or the United Kingdom, whichever is closer.
Jon's mother wrote a self-published autobiography, "Nothing if not Determined", written during Covid and published 2023.
Jon's father could be characterized as taciturn, or "a man of few words, much like myself", as Jon would say.
Robert has brother: Charles Vernon, married, no issue.
Norma has a brother and a sister:
- Leonard, married, 1 daughter (Jennifer), and
- Enid Mabbot (nee Vernon), she married a Moroccan, Madir Mabbot, and currently Enid is not close to the family. Enid and Madir separated, 1 son, (Michael Mabbot).
