Obituary
On March 19th, 2020, Julie Cairns passed away at the Portage & District General Hospital with her family at her side following a very long and courageous battle with cancer. Julie has now gained her wings and is free from suffering.
Julie will be lovingly remembered by her husband Garnet, daughter Jasmine (Ian), son Clint (Jammie), and daughter Cathy, grandchildren Grady, Madelyn, and Bayleigh, her father Murray McAllister, brothers Steve (Heather), Lloyd (Lorraine), Barry (Dawn), and numerous nieces and nephews. She is also mourned by her lifetime friend John Tully, and long-standing neighbor and best friend Trish Bergin and her family.
Julie was predeceased by her mother Gillian in 2001, and her step-mother Ruth McAllister in 2015.
Mom was a wonderful Mother, Grandmother, Wife, and Friend. Mom had a big heart and loved people, and had a kind word for everyone. She would call complete strangers “Dear” and make them feel special. She would help anyone who needed it without hesitation and would always put other’s needs ahead of her own – whether that need be for a person or animal. She shared her love and took in numerous lost and rescued animals, saving them and nursing them back to health.
Julie spent most of her career at CIBC where she made many lasting friendships due to her sincere desire to be helpful and courteous to her clients. Julie was a hard worker, and often worked three jobs at one time. She instilled the values of an honest day’s work in our family.
A Memorial Service is planned for a later date and a notice will be made at that time.
If friends so desire, memorial donations can be made to P.A.W.S. (Portage Animal Welfare Society) 121 – 12th St. N.E. Portage la Prairie, MB, R1N 4A2.
